Would your event benefit from a speaker who shares insights gained in overcoming the challenges of:

-being a parent to a disabled child?

-dealing with disappointment and disillusionment?

-addressing mental health issues as an Army mental health specialist?

-rising to the occasion to be distinguished honor grad for his Army leadership cohort?

-being part of a culture change of 2 troubled at-risk education programs?

-starting a business with few resources?

Hello everyone! Thank you for taking time to visit the website of Mr. Rodge’s Neighborhood? First off, I would like to share some information about myself. I am an educator in San Antonio, TX, having worked in underserved communities throughout my career. Some of the positions I have held include special education teacher, general education science teacher, science instructional coach, academic instructional coach, administrative intern, and substitute assistant principal. I also served in the US Army as a mental health specialist which, in civilian lingo, is a counselor. Lastly, I am a parent to my oldest daughter, who has been diagnosed with moderate to severe autism. I can honestly say that parenting a child with special needs has so many “behind the scenes” challenges that many people, including educators, overlook. I am compelled to share my insights about being parent to a special needs child with others in order to build awareness.

I am the founder of Rodgers Speaks!, which is the name of my consulting business. I am also a published author. The title of my book is Success Is A Process, Not An Event, which incorporates the concepts of the growth mindset, leadership, and resilience to facilitate reaching our maximum potential.

I have conducted staff development and motivational speaking on a wide range of topics to audiences of all ages.  I have a particular fondness for speaking to millennial audiences; I feel society tends to undervalue their drive to positively impact their surroundings.  I also champion the issues related to the challenges parents of special needs children incur.  Some of the organizations Rodgers Speaks has conducted presentations for and/or had appearances at include:

  • Dallas ISD, Callejo Elementary
  • Edgewood ISD, Memorial HS
  • Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA)
  • Camp Flaming Arrow
  • SAMMinistries
  • Court Appointed Special Advocates of Central TX
  • The YMCA
  • The Alamo Kiwanis Club
  • Daytime at 9, KABB Fox 29, San Antonio
  • The Optimist Club San Antonio
  • Stone Oak Rotary Club
  • Teach For America
  • 2018 Region 20 TAPPestry Conference
  • Adult & Teen Challenge
  • Boysville, Inc.
  • National Society of Leadership & Success at UT-San Antonio, Induction Ceremony Keynote
  • Robstown ISD, Salazar Crossroads Academy (Corpus Christi)
  • Crosspoint Transitional Facility
  • Northside ISD, John Jay High School
  • Men’s Empowerment Conference, San Antonio College/Alamo Community Colleges
  • Helena HS Faculty, Helena, AL  (Birmingham)
  • Floresville Middle School, Floresville, TX
  • Blinn College, Brenham, TX
  • (Tentative) St. Martin Parish Schools, St. Martinville, LA

I have worked in leadership capacities with San Antonio ISD (instructional coach) and NEISD (administrative intern), which included conducting professional development. I am also part of the leadership of the Power Scholars Academy, an acclaimed & academically rigorous summer program designed to prevent summer learning loss in at-risk students.

My personal and professional experiences have allowed me to gain some unique insights on a variety of topics that I believe can have a positive impact on the lives of many.

  3. Dear Mills R.,

This is K&L, The Millionaire’s Digest Founder & CEO, and first of all, I just want to say thank you for all the hard work and amazing articles you write for our website! Anyone should be lucky to have someone like you on their team!

Now, I don’t know if you heard this or not, but we’re starting our magazine line as well as coming out with our own app in the app store too. Now my question to you is: Are you in or are you out? As in, would you like a spot to be in it, as well as be in our future magazines too? I mean, I’m coming to the people who are the most important to me first, then I’ll send out a message to everyone else if we still have any spots left. But I’ll need to know before the end of this week is over as I will be going off to college soon too!

  4. Hi! I’ve enjoyed reading your information! I’ve been teaching Special Ed in the Resource capacity for 3 years now, and find a few things still a bit challenging. Maintenance of data is an enormous amount & I need pointers. Also I would enjoy hearing a presentation from you. However, I’m not one even close to making decisions about speakers or PDs. I’m from Texas, but work here in Arizona hoping to return one day after gaining much needed experience. My school is in Phoenix, AZ. I would be more than happy to share more information anytime. Thank you!

    • Thanks for reading and commenting. I think data collection is a challenge for many people, myself but included. I think the challenge with data collection is consistency, when you have to balance it with all the other concerns on the classroom. It is also a challenge to figure out useful vs. not useful data.
